Filtered Water with a Balanced pH

Crystal Quest SMART Whole House Water Filters are engineered for maximum filtration and performance with minimum maintenance. The Eagle Whole House Water Filter treats your water as it enters the home, delivering filtered water to every faucet, shower, and appliance throughout the property.

SMART Water Filtration

The Eagle system uses a combination of standard and catalytic coconut-shell granular activated carbon, Eagle Redox Alloy 6500 and 9500, ion exchange resin, and an alkalizing blend of calcium carbonate with natural mineral and infrared media. Together, these media are designed to reduce a broad range of water-quality concerns, including chlorine, chloramine, certain heavy metals such as lead and mercury, pesticides, herbicides, petroleum-related compounds, pharmaceutical by-products, and other organic and inorganic contaminants, while supporting a balanced, remineralized pH.

How to Size It

Capacity is how much clean water the filter delivers before the media is replaced, and the simplest way to size it is by the number of bathrooms in the home.

1,000,000 gallon capacity suits 1 to 3 bathrooms
1,500,000 gallon capacity suits 2 to 4 bathrooms

Multistage Filtration

Pre-Filtration

Water first passes through a 20-inch sediment cartridge, which captures larger suspended particles such as sand, silt, dirt, and rust before the water reaches the primary media. Removing these particles early helps protect the downstream components and supports consistent performance.

Carbon Block

Water then moves through a 20-inch solid carbon cartridge, which reduces volatile organic compounds along with any remaining insecticides, pesticides, and industrial solvents.

Ultrafiltration (UF) Membrane

Next, water passes through a 20-inch, 0.2-micron ultrafiltration membrane.

Alkalizing (Eagle) Media

Water flows through a bed of a special calcium carbonate blend that alkalizes, ionizes, and remineralizes the water while raising its pH, followed by a blend of natural mineral and infrared balls in the ionizer media.

Eagle Media

Finally, water passes through arsenic-free coconut-shell granular activated carbon, a widely used adsorbent for reducing a broad range of organic contaminants, tastes, and odors, and then through two beds of Eagle Redox Alloy media (ERA 6500 and 9500). Through a natural process of electrochemical oxidation-reduction and adsorption, these alloys reduce or remove many remaining contaminants.

Water Treatment Options for Hard Water

Depending on the incoming water, the Eagle system can be paired with additional treatment for hardness and scale.

Traditional Water Softener

A conventional softener reduces calcium and magnesium through ion exchange, swapping hardness minerals for sodium or potassium ions. The resin regenerates periodically with a brine solution, so salt or potassium chloride is replenished as part of normal maintenance. This is generally the right choice when the goal is to lower the measured hardness of the water and help prevent new scale. Conventional softening addresses future scale rather than deposits already inside pipes or appliances.

Salt-Free Conditioner

A salt-free conditioner manages hardness differently. Rather than removing calcium and magnesium, the media changes how those minerals behave so they are less likely to attach to plumbing, fixtures, and appliances. Because the minerals remain in the water, a hardness test may read the same before and after. The goal here is scale management rather than mineral removal.

Salt-Free Water Softener

The salt-free softening option uses media designed to alter the physical form of calcium hardness so it is less likely to form deposits, giving you scale control without the salt regeneration cycle a conventional softener needs. For very high hardness, additional pretreatment or a different media configuration may be recommended.

Hard Water and Your Home

Hard water contains naturally occurring calcium and magnesium, picked up as groundwater moves through soil and mineral-rich rock. As the concentration of these minerals rises, so does the measured hardness. Over time, hard water can leave mineral deposits on faucets, showerheads, fixtures, pipes, water heaters, dishwashers, and washing machines, along with spotting on dishes and glassware, residue around sinks, and soap buildup on surfaces.

Optional System Upgrades

UV Water Treatment

An optional UV system can be added for microorganism control, treating organisms such as bacteria, viruses, algae, and protozoa without adding chlorine or other chemicals to your water.

Leak Detection Valve

Monitors the filtration system and automatically shuts off the incoming water supply if a leak is detected, helping reduce the risk of flooding around the equipment.

Vacuum Breaker

Installed ahead of the equipment to help protect tanks and housings from negative pressure conditions within the plumbing system.

Metered Valve

Standard systems backwash on a timer. An optional metered valve initiates backwashing based on the amount of water used rather than a fixed schedule, so it responds to actual household usage.

Tank Selection and Maintenance

Consider the installation environment when choosing between stainless-steel and fiberglass tanks. Stainless steel can be more prone to surface rust or pinhole corrosion in persistent condensation, high humidity, or salt-present conditions. For a consistently damp location, or where routine exterior tank maintenance will be difficult, a fiberglass tank is often the more practical choice.
